3 Conn. lacrosse players accused of sexual assault
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Three players on Sacred Heart University’s men’s lacrosse team have been charged with sexually assaulting an 18-year-old female student.
Police charged 18-year-old Nicholas Travers of Smithtown, N.Y., 18-year-old Zachari Triner of Mansfield, Mass., and 19-year-old Timothy Sanders of Ashburn, Va., with conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault Sunday.
The Connecticut Post reports that authorities say Sanders and the woman were having consensual sex in a dorm, when Sanders suddenly summoned the other two men to the room. Police say Travers and Triner sexually assaulted the woman while Sanders held her down.
Sanders’ lawyer says the allegations are “grossly exaggerated.” Police say Triner denied touching the girl, and Travers denied knowing anything about what happened.
