Ganguly’s half-century fails to rescue Bengal (Ranji Round-up)

NEW DELHI - Former India captain Sourav Ganguly hit a patient half-century but failed to prevent Bengal from being dismissed for a paltry 193 in the first innings against Uttar Pradesh on the first day of the Ranji Trophy Super League Tuesday.
Ganguly made 66 while opener Arindam Das struck 46 and the duo added 81-runs for the fourth wicket that helped Bengal get to the three-figure mark on a green top at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
For Uttar Pradesh, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla was the most successful bowler with four for 51 while medium pacer Praveen Kumar bagged three for 54.
At Vadodara, 20 wickets fell on the opening day of the Group B match between Baroda and Saurashtra at the Moti Bagh Stadium.
Saurashtra were bowled out fot 127 runs in the first innings against Baroda with fast bowlers Munaf Patel taking a five for 48 and Irfan Pathan bagging three for 41.
Saurashtra then dismissed the hosts for 124 runs after Jayesh Odedara bagged five for 28. At stumps, Saurashtra were four for no loss and had a lead of seven runs.
