Then, he got nominated for the Heisman Trophy, and received four other nominations for the Lott Trophy, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Outland Trophy and the Bednarik Trophy. He is also considered the top prospect for the NFL draft for the year 2010. By receiving this award, Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska became the fifth player from his team to take home the Lombardi Award. The Rotary Lombardi 2009 award function was held in Houston, with John Granato presiding as the master of ceremonies. He cracked a joke at the expense of the senior defensive tackle, feigning apprehension at mentioning aloud the name of the winner, saying that he found it a difficult name to pronounce. Ndamukong Suh was in his element too, agreeing with the compere, saying that one would have to practice pronouncing the name once or twice, after which it would sound far easier.
The winner of the Lombardi Award 2009 took a good humored shot at another finalist for the trophy, Jerry Hughes of TCU. When it was announced that the Lombardi Award 2009 went to Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska, the player came on the stage and apologized to Jerry Hughes for not having beaten him in the Big 12 Championship match against Texas. On a whole, being pronounced the winner of the Lombardi Award 2009 proves that Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska is on a roll.
