Tasmania quick Geeves added to Oz squad for Perth Test

PERTH - Tasmanian quick Brett Geeves has been called up as cover for injured pace bowler Peter Siddle for the Perth Test that begins Wednesday.
Meanwhile, West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has undergone scans on a finger he injured during last week’s Adelaide Test.
Fox Sports quoted a West Indies spokesman, as saying the scan on Chanderpaul’s right hand was merely a precaution, with team doctors confident the 35-year-old will be fit to play at the WACA Ground on Wednesday.
Watson, too, is expected to take his place in the third Test despite failing to bat or bowl since arriving in Perth on Saturday night.
The 28-year-old opener moved gingerly during Australia’s fielding drills on Monday and was merely an observer as Siddle, who was troubled by a tight hamstring during the second Test, unleashed a blistering 35-minute spell in the nets that had Mike Hussey in all sorts of bother.
Geeves, who has played two one-day games and a Twenty20 match for Australia, has taken 15 wickets at 27.66 for the Tigers in four Shield matches this season.
But the 27-year-old played down his chances of breaking into the Test XI just yet.
“If Siddle is no good I think he’ll go home and Clint McKay will play and I will be 12th man,” Geeves said.
“But if Siddle plays I’ll be home on Wednesday,” he added. (ANI)
