Cuche leads downhill training with broken rib
VAL GARDENA, Italy — World Cup downhill leader Didier Cuche of Switzerland led the final training session for this weekend’s race despite skiing with a broken rib.
Bode Miller, nursing a sore ankle, was 10th.
Cuche sped down the 2.14-mile Saslong course in 1 minute, 59.22 seconds on Thursday. The super-G world champion fell last week during training and broke his rib at Val d’Isere, France.
Werner Heel of Italy was second and defending overall World Cup champion Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway was third. Two-time defending champion Michael Walchhofer finished fourth.
A super-G race is scheduled for Friday, followed by the downhill Saturday.
