Freestyle aerialist Peterson makes 3rd Olympics
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Speedy Peterson and Lacy Schnoor have made the Olympic freestyle skiing team, winning the aerials event at U.S. Olympic trials.
Peterson made his third Olympic team and says he’ll try to bring his patented “Hurricane” jump — the one with five twists — to Vancouver.
He landed a pair of quadruple-twisting jumps Thursday to finish with 258.21 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Dylan Ferguson. Ryan St. Onge, ranked second in the world, finished third after falling on his second jump.
Schnoor made her first Olympic team with a score of 177.83. The door opened for her when America’s top two women, Jana Lindsey and Emily Cook, fell on their first jumps.
