Randall takes third title at ski championships
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — James Southam has helped his chances for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team with a victory in the 30-kilometer classical at the 2010 U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships.
The hometown favorite finished in 1 hour, 32 minutes, 8 seconds for his fifth national title. He was more than a minute ahead of Kris Freeman of Andover, N.H., who finished in 1:33.18. Bryan Cook of Rhinelander, Wis., finished third in 1:33.43.
On the women’s side, Kikkan Randall of Anchorage won the 20-kilometer classical, her third title in five days. She finished in 1:14.19. The victory was Randall’s 13th national championship.
Holly Brooks of Anchorage was second in 1:14.29. Caitlin Compton of Minneapolis was third in 1:15.04.
