KOLKATA - Young Virat Kohli, firing on all cylinders in the ongoing tri-series in Bangladesh, needs to prove his mettle against stronger teams, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said here Tuesday.

“So far, he has indeed done very well. By the way, he is still very young and so, it’s too early to draw conclusions. Having said that, I think his bigger test will be against stronger teams like Australia and South Africa,” Ganguly told mediapersons here on the sidelines of the Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders’ camp here.

Kohli struck his first one-day international ton against Sri Lanka in the home series last month. He has had scores of 91, 71 and an unconquered 102 in the ongoing tri-series in Bangladesh.

Ganguly, also the KKR skipper, termed India as the favourites to win the tri-series by prevailing over Sri Lanka in Wednesday’s final.

“Without doubt, India are the favourites. But at the same time, toss too would be an important factor as we have seen right throughout the tournament,” he pointed out.
