Boxer who collapsed to stay in hospital two days
MANILA, Philippines — The American boxer who collapsed in his dressing room and was hospitalized for apparent exhaustion soon after he was knocked out in a title fight on Saturday will have to remain there for at least two days.
Brian Viloria won’t be cleared by doctors to fly home for at least 10 days, and he will need to return to the hospital to ensure there is no latent brain swelling, his manager Gary Gittelsohn e-mailed The Associated Press.
All tests came back negative on Viloria, who was knocked out by Colombia’s Carlos Tamara in a light flyweight title fight. Referee Bruce McTavish stopped the fight 1:45 into the 12th round.
After Viloria had returned to his dressing room, he collapsed and was taken to the hospital.
