Pargat Singh fires another salvo at IOA President

CHANDIGARH - Former hockey captain Pargat Singh once again fired another salvo at Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President, Suresh Kalmadi by blaming the latter for making attempts to occupy the Hockey India (HI) chief’s position.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Singh said: “He (Kalmadi) should not remote control hockey federation. Let there be independent thinking about what we should do and what we is our vision. We should do all these things. There is lack of vision. We should welcome anybody (as President) if he is good person and wants to promote the game.”
Last week, he held Kalmadi responsible for the recent revolt by players of the national hockey team and resignation of Hockey India’s President A J Mattoo.
However, Hockey India’s Secretary General Narinder Batra defended Kalmadi a day after Pargat’s accusation.
Batra contended that the former captain’s comments smacked of frustration since his chances of being the Secretary General of the outfit were marginal.
Batra also took a potshot at the sports ministry, saying: “They are acting like sports ministry, government of Punjab and not government of India.” (ANI)
