MELBOURNE - World No.1 Serena Williams advanced to her fifth Australian Open final on Thursday with a tight, straight-sets victory over China’s Li Na.
Williams, who has won the Open title on the four previous occasions she made the decider in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009, ousted Li 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-1) in a semi-final lasting two hours and two minutes.
Her opponent in Saturday’s final will be the winner of Thursday’s second semi between comeback star Justine Henin of Belgium and China’s Zheng Jie.
It is the first time that two Chinese players have advanced to the last four at a grand slam tournament. (ANI)
