Ligety wins WCup Giant Slalom
KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia — Ted Ligety of the United States won a men’s World Cup giant slalom Friday for his first win of the season and fifth in his career.
The 25-year-old American finished the Pokoren 3 course in a combined 2 minutes, 22.02 seconds to win the event for a third straight year.
Marcel Hirscher of Austria was 0.34 back in second. Kjetil Jansrud of Norway took third, 0.51 behind Ligety.
Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who led after the opening run, finished fourth.
Benjamin Raich of Austria placed 11th and kept the lead in the overall standings.
