Jaco, Holland defend Winter X Games titles
ASPEN, Colo. — Americans Lindsey Jacobellis and Nate Holland have defended their Winter X Games titles in snowboardcross.
Jacobellis held off Helene Olafsen of Norway on Saturday to win her third straight title while Holland beat out American teammate Seth Wescott to become the first athlete to win five straight X Games championships.
Both winners overtook the second-place finishers about halfway down the 3,500-foot course, then held on over the final series of twists and jumps.
Jacobellis won a silver medal in the 2006 Olympics after falling while holding a big lead at the end. The next year at the Winter X Games, almost the same thing happened. But she has won three straight since.
Wescott, meanwhile, is the defending Olympic champion but fell to 0-for-13 in snowboardcross at the Winter X Games.
