Stecher wins Nordic Combined World Cup event
SEEFELD, Austria — Mario Stecher of Austria won a Nordic Combined World Cup event Sunday for his first victory of the season and 10th overall.
The 32-year-old Stecher was ninth after the ski jump and finished the 10-kilometer cross-country race in 25 minutes, 32.8 seconds.
Eric Frenzel of Germany led the race until the last two kilometers and finished 1 second behind. Frenzel won Saturday’s event.
Alessandro Pittin of Italy was 2.2 seconds back in third.
Jason Lamy Chappuis of France, who skipped the event like several other top medal contenders for the Vancouver Olympics, leads the standings. He is 295 points clear of Austria’s Felix Gottwald with three events left.
