Mayweather makes Mosley fight official

LAS VEGAS — Floyd Mayweather Jr. made it official Wednesday by signing a contract to fight Shane Mosley on May 1 in a welterweight bout.

Mayweather’s signature had been the last obstacle for the scheduled 12-round fight, which will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Negotiations for the fight began after Andre Berto pulled out of his scheduled Jan. 30 fight with Mosley because of the earthquake in Haiti. Mayweather had been looking for an opponent since negotiations for a megafight with Manny Pacquiao collapsed.

Pacquiao will fight Joshua Clottey on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Texas in another welterweight fight.

Mayweather is undefeated in 40 fights with 25 knockouts, while Mosley is 46-5.
