BHOPAL - Ahead of upcoming major sports tournaments like the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, selected Indian Judo players are preparing themselves rigorously here at an ongoing camp to deliver their best.

Having given a good performance in Commonwealth Judo Championship, the participants are now gearing up for the Asian Games 2010 in the camp organised in Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Bhopal centre.

The camp, which is being conducted for the last one and half months, is mainly to prepare the players for the Judo championships.

“This camp has been going on for the past one-and-a-half months, mainly for three tournaments — the Commonwealth Judo Championship in Singapore which is already over, the South Asia Judo Championship that happened in Dhaka, Bangladesh and the forthcoming Rajiv Gandhi Judo Championship to be held in Jaipur on 21 and 22.” said Satish Sharma, the Judo coach.

He, however, says that the objective behind the camp is to give rigorous training to the players to develop their physical strength, speed and stamina.

“These players are the selected players from India. They sometimes lack in physical fitness, strength, flexibility, agility, speed and endurance. So after conducting tests and evaluation, we try to improve them in this camp,” he added.

India won 18 medals in different weight categories of the Commonwealth judo championships in Singapore. The tally included 13 gold medals. By Ram Chand Sahu (ANI)
