GENEVA - Swiss swimmer Peter Colat has set a world record by spending 19 minutes and 21 seconds under water, news reports said Monday.

In doing so, Colat regained a title he had held in the past but subsequently lost. The previous world record, held by the Italian Nicola Putignano, was 19 seconds shorter.

Colat, who set the new time at a fair in the northern Swiss canton of St Gallen, holds various national swimming and diving records.
