NARKANDA - Young skiers from hilly town of Narkanda in Himachal Pradesh enthralled the audience by showcasing their awesome skiing skills during a Skiing Competition on Sunday.
The two-day snow skiing race was organized to explore young talent in snow sports.
Nearly 40 young local children participated in this competition.
The competition was organised with a motive to expose the young skiers.
“We have the local youth altogether and we are conducting this small championship to give exposure to the local children of this area as a skiing race.” said Jampa Negi, organizer.
Local young participants taking part in the championship believed that this kind of attempt would help the young talent to come forward to enjoy the benefits.
“I guess people here don’t know much about this game. There must be only a few people going to other places and practicing out there. They mostly settle out there because they have more tourism and better-advanced techniques and all. So out here it’s like a small place, small town and small people,” said Rasheel, a local young skiing player.
Situated at an attitude of 2708 meters on the Hindustan Tibet road (NH - 22), Narkanda has produced some international level players in snow sports like, skiing, alpine skiing, snow boards and snow shoeing etc.
The skiing at Narkanda was started in 1980 and since then, Himachal Pradesh Tourism department is conducting skiing courses every year. By Hemanth Chauhan (ANI)
