Specially-abled children attend winter games training camp

NARKANDA - Around 85 specially-abled children participated in the eight-day winter games training camp at Narkanda town organised by the Himachal Pradesh chapter of Special Olympics Bharat.
The winter games training camp also witnessed the participation of various trainers, who had come to cheer and guide their students.
Camp officials claimed that although it was initially difficult to convey teachings to the children, gradually they managed to overcome the problem.
Jagmohan, a camp manager said, “It has been six years that I started giving training to these specially-abled children. Initially, it was difficult for us to convey what we wanted to teach them”
“But now we can convey whatever we want them to know. Our coaches have also become experts and now they don’t have problems in training them,” he added.
The children were taught snowboarding and skiing to train them for the forthcoming World Winter Games to be held in Korea in 2013.
After training, the children will be selected on the basis of their performance for competing in different snow games.
Rajni, a specially-abled girl said, “I perform quite well. I love to be here. I have learnt skiing in this camp.”
The camp, which is situated at an altitude of 2708 meters on the Hindustan Tibet road (NH - 22), Narkanda has produced some international level players in snow sports like, skiing, alpine skiing, snow boards and snow shoeing etc. (ANI)
