Manfred Pranger leads after first run of final World Cup slalom; Herbst poised for title

Pranger leads in final men’s World Cup slalom
GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany — Manfred Pranger of Austria led after the first run of the final World Cup slalom race of the season, while teammate Reinfried Herbst was on course to clinch the overall title in the event.
Herbst, who has a 43-point lead over Julien Lizeroux, was in 10th place, one spot below the Frenchman. If they hold those positions after the second run, Herbst will secure the title.
Pranger clocked 49.85 seconds, ahead of Julien Cousineau of Canada at 49.94, and third-place Andre Myhrer of Sweden at 50.08.
Olympic champion Giuliano Razzoli of Italy failed to finish.
