Europa League semifinals to go ahead as planned
LONDON — European soccer authorities say both Europa League semifinals will proceed as planned Thursday despite the cloud of volcanic ash that has closed airports across much of Europe.
Liverpool will have to find an alternative route to Spain for the first leg of its semifinal against Atletico Madrid. Fulham says it has a plan to travel to Germany in time to play Hamburg.
The London club did not say if the plan involved taking a ferry to mainland Europe or using the English Channel tunnel.
In tennis, Japan asked the International Tennis Federation on Monday to postpone a Fed Cup playoff against Slovenia. The Japanese team had been scheduled to leave Sunday for the two-day series beginning Saturday.
