US defender Onyewu selected for AC Milan game
MILAN — American defender Oguchi Onyewu could play Sunday for the first time since a knee injury in October.
He is among 23 players selected for AC Milan’s Serie A game at Genoa.
Onyewu had left knee surgery Oct. 21, seven days after tearing his patellar tendon during a World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica. He joined AC Milan last summer from Belgium’s Standard Liege but played in just one of 10 competitive matches before getting hurt.
After Sunday’s game, AC Milan closes the Serie A season May 16 at home against Juventus. The U.S. national team starts pre-World Cup workouts the following day at Princeton. N.J.
