Teenager Spieth makes final-round run at Nelson
IRVING, Texas — Jordan Spieth sure will have a lot to talk about when he returns to high school Monday.
The 16-year-old junior golf star more than held his own against the pros on the PGA Tour, getting within three shots of the lead on the final nine holes of the Byron Nelson Championship on Sunday before slipping down the leaderboard.
Spieth shot a 2-over 72, his highest score of the tournament, and finished at 4-under 276. He walked off tied for 17th with four groups still on the course.
Regardless of where Spieth (pronounced SPEE-th) winds up in the standings, the 2010 Nelson will be remembered for the maturity and moxie not expected from someone who spent last week playing in the state high school tournament.
