FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Fargo Marathon, one of the most popular events in the United States, is growing by the day and how! As was expected, close to 17,000 runners participated in the competitions held on the third day. The 10 kilometers race was the first of its kind in the Fargo Marathon, which is already running on its sixth year now, but this did not prevent the people of Fargo to come out and cheer the participants even in the early morning hours.

Kevin Bjerke, a Fargo South student took home the prize in the men’s ten kilometers race, defeating the man who was behind him by a time span of more than four minutes, running the whole length in the Fargo Marathon in only 34 minutes and six seconds. In the women’s section, it was a 36 year old mother named Kris Boekelheide who hit the target, reaching the end point before a minute earlier than the girl following her. Both contestants have appeared on the course of the Fargo Marathon sometimes in the past and have also participated in running events for their colleges.

With predictions made by Mark Knutson of participants crossing the 20,000 mark this year, 17,000 was a fair enough number. What was not predicted though was the weather forecast. Contrary to runners estimating that they would have to run under extreme conditions, the climate during the Fargo Marathon was so pleasant that the runners were all the more pleased to take on the field. While the 10 kilometers race took place at 7 in the morning, the half and full marathons started shortly after about half an hour. Participants are excited and are raring to go in the 2010 Fargo Marathon.
