INDIANAPOLIS (GaeaTimes.com)- On Sunday, Dario Franchitti went on to win the Indy 500 race while Dan Wheldon finished second and Marco Andretti ended up being third. This is the second win for Dario Franchitti who had won the Indy 500 title back in 2007. However, the win was not a cake walk for the racer who dominated most of the laps. Of the total 200 laps Dario Franchitti led 155 and the race took an interesting turn towards the end following the crash of Mike Conway. As the fuel saving came into the play, the race got interesting as Dan Wheldon managed to decrease the gap between him and Dario Franchitti.
Dario Franchitti was able to dominate again the Indy 500 results as the racer saved enough fuel to outduel Dan Wheldon and reach the finishing point with just 0.35 liters of oil in the tank. After the spectacular win, Dario Franchitti mentioned that it was not all that easy to win the race. He said that the situation was under control “up until 10 laps to go” but got messy when the matter of fuel saving came into play. However, the whole affair made the win a great experience for not only the Dario Franchitti but also for the viewers. Drinking the traditional victory milk, Dario Franchitti joked that “This tastes just as good the second time”.
Asked by media sources what went through Dario Franchitti when he was in his way to complete his last lap, the racer said that he just wanted to finish the track before his fuel got over “see if you can get to the finish” was what he was thinking. The Indy 500 results in favor of Chip Gannassi made it the first owner to have both the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500 title in the same season.
