INDIANAPOLIS (GaeaTimes.com)- Mike Conway got involved in a horrific accident on Sunday in the 2010 Indy 500 race. His car flew into the air and hit the catch fence and then fell back into the track. The impact left the car in pieces, but Mike Conway survived the crash with only a leg injury. Team owner Dennis Reinbold later revealed that Mike Conway was going almost 20mph faster than other racers in the 199th lap. He was about to tell Mike Conway that there is enough room to take on the racers who were already slowing down to preserve their fuels. But before he could warn Mike Conway, his car flew into the air after grazing with fellow racer Ryan Hunter-Reay. It spun in the air to hit the catch fence to the horror of the fans and then disintegrated on the track. It almost stopped defending champion Helio Castroneves.
The scene of the crash had nothing but debris of the car. For racers who went past it, it was a disconcerting sight. Danica Patrick revealed that being under a car that’s cartwheeling in the air is never a comfortable thing and also wished Mike Conway a speedy recovery. The accident cautioned the other racers who exercised even more caution towards the end of the race.
Mike Conway was immediately hospitalized after the crash and lifted by a helicopter to avoid post-race traffic. Reports of his present health is unavailable but he has only complained about his leg. Fellow driver Ryan Hunter-Reay suffered a thumb injury and is due for surgery.
