DETROIT (GaeaTimes.com)- Jim Joyce, famous as though he is in the field of baseball, and considered to be one of the best umpires the game has ever known, is not likely to add another feather to his cap after the game that was held between the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers, in Camerico Park in Detroit. In the game, Jim Joyce managed to make a wrong call that resulted in the ruining of a perfect game, that too, one that would have made the third perfect game for Armando Galaragga, in less than a month, a feat not so easily and commonly achieved.
Jim Joyce called Jason Donald safe, just when Armando Galaragga had pitched the perfect game. While the move was deeply disputed among the audience and the players, and the instant replays showed that Jason Donald was very clearly out, the damage was already done, and Armando Galaragga had lost his chance to pitch the perfect game. Later on, however, Jim Joyce apologized to Armando Galaragga, saying that he had made a huge mistake in calling Jason Donald safe.
Later on, Armando Galaragga and Jim Joyce were seen speaking after the game was over. Certain reports stated that Jim Joyce was in tears as the two spoke. At the end of the one to one conference, the two parted after hugging each other, and later on, Armando Galaragga reported that the umpire had apologized to him. The player also did not harbor any hard feelings about his missed chance of a perfect game, saying that “nobody is perfect,” and that mistakes are made by all humans.
