Hayden Simpson Picked By Chicago Cubs

CHICAGO (GaeaTimes.com)- As the Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft 2010 began on Monday, the Chicago Cubs team management did not miss the opportunity to use their first round pick to get the Southern Arkansas University player Hayden Simpson to the team. The Chicago Cubs took Hayden Simpson with the 16th overall pick and though the early first round pick had shocked the player himself, the team’s scouting director Tim Wilken maintained in front of the media sources that the team made the right decision by using its first round pick to get the right-hander player to the team.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Hayden Simpson has to his credit many wins for the Southern Arkansas University team for which he had played for 3 seasons. He not only was one of the key players in the team but also during his tenure with the team Hayden Simpson had the maximum ERA, starts and innings pitched to his credit. In 2010 season Hayden Simpson bore the personal record of 13-1 along with a ERA of 1.81 in 15 starts. He also had to his credit 131 strikeouts. In his three years play with Southern Arkansas University team Hayden Simpson had managed an average of 35-2 and a 2.39 ERA in the 48 games that he had played. Apart from all these Hayden Simpson also bears a school record of 323 strikeouts.
According to reports, it was the area scout Jim Crawford who recommended Hayden Simpson and the player was expecting a pick between the second and the fifth round draft pick. On Monday night, the first round draft pick came as a surprise for the player. As for Tim Wilken, he had an eye on the Hayden Simpson since he was him play against Florida Southern during the Southern Regional tournament.
