MEMPHIS - Jeev Milkha Singh, who failed to make the US Open, made up for the disappointment with a fine three-under 67 that gave him a share of 12th place after the first round of the St. Jude Classic in Memphis.
Jeev, who missed successive cuts at the Crowne Plaza International and the Memorial Tournament earlier, had five birdies against two bogeys for a solid start to the $5.6-million event.
Jeev had a birdie on the third hole and then another on the fifth before an eighth hole bogey had him one-under at the turn. On his way back, Jeev bogeyed the 10th but made up with birdies on the 13th, 16th and 18th.
England’s Lee Weswood led with a round of 63 and he was one ahead of American Casey Wittenborg (64) followed by Ireland’s Padraig Harrington (65).
