Iraq: Raid on the football association unlawful
BAGHDAD — An Iraqi official says the government will investigate a raid on the Iraqi Football Association to find out who was behind it.
Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh says men in military-style uniforms who appeared Sunday at the federation’s offices with arrest warrants for senior football officials were not acting in an official capacity.
He told The Associated Press Tuesday that no law enforcement agency authorized the raid and a committee will look into the incident.
Members of the association are due to meet in the Kurdish city of Irbil Saturday to choose a new president.
