SPAIN (GaeaTimes.com) — Lawmakers in Catalonia outlaw bullfighting from the semi-autonomous region of Spain. The animal rights members are supporting the cause.
Its been a tradition for the Spanish to indulge in bull fighting. It’s quite a dangerous game. Though mostly the innocent bull’s are victimized, on rare cases human’s do get hurt.
Bull fighting is a traditional spectacle of Spain, Portugal, some cities in southern France and in several Latin American countries.
One or more bulls are ritually killed in a bullring as a public spectacle. It can be considered a blood sport. In Portugal it is illegal to kill a bull in the arena. A nonlethal variant stemming from Portuguese influence is also practiced on the Tanzanian island of Pemba.
Cheers broke out in the local 135-seat legislature after the speaker announced the ban had passed 68-to-55 with nine abstentions. The ban in the northeastern coastal region including Barcelona will take effect in 2012.
The first Spanish Region to outlaw bull fighting happens to be Canary Islands. Its been decades now they put an end to this blood sport. During their campaigns, the opponents came up with the slogan “Stop animal cruelty, No more blood.” Well establishing the law is just the half job done. Most importantly public awareness is the key that can successfully lock up this inhuman blood sport.
