NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — Commonwealth Games 2010, which is already turmoiled by several infrastructure issues, gets another blow today. Stephanie Rice, a three times gold medalist of Australia has withdrawn her name from the CWG citing shoulder injury.
Reportedly, Stephanie is suffering a right shoulder injury, that forces her to go back to home. While announcing her decision Stephanie broke into tears. “Obviously it is a huge disappointment for me, I would have loved to have been there because Commonwealth Games comes around once every four years,” the swimming star is quoted in Sydney Morning Herald.
The heartbreaking news came on Wednesday. After swimming for the 50-meters butterfly, she felt a pain, which forced Stephanie to opt for a arthroscopic surgery.
Stephanie makes her mind to withdraw from Delhi CWG 2010 in order to remain fit for the London Olympics 2012.
Previously, Stephanie Rice has won three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics. She is now rescheduling her plan to participate in the seven events at the PanPacs Swimming Championship in California. She is expected to be available for the three events instead of seven.
