Well-traveled Diop scores 2 for Wizards
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Birahim Diop, out of professional soccer last season, scored his first two MLS goals Saturday night in the Kansas City Wizards’ 4-1 victory over the New England Revolution.
After playing in his native Senegal, Diop played four games for the MetroStars in 2002, then went on to teams in Moldova and Colombia.
He also had two stints in New York-area amateur leagues before joining the Wizards. He started Saturday night because Teal Bunbury was suspended.
Kansas City went past New England into fifth place with 23 points in the Eastern Conference. Kenny Mansally scored for the Revs.
Diop assisted on Kei Kamara’s goal in the 65th minute for a 3-1 lead. Jack Jewsbury replaced Diop in the 66th and scored 3 minutes later.
