Aston Villa Smashed by Rapid Vienna for 2-3 in Euraopa League

LONDON(GaeaTimes.com)– It seems that the banner saying “Your nightmare returns” held aloft by the Rapid Vienna supporters came true to the words for the Aston Villa. They were knocked out of the Europa League by Austrian side for the second successive season on a night of crushing disappointment for the Midlands club.
Just like last year, Villa couldn’t stop the Rapids even after Emile Heskey put them 2-1 on the night. Two successive goals in the space of 3 minutes from Mario Sonnleitner and the substitute Rene Gartler, left Villa devastated. Moreover, the Dutch referee, Eric Braamhaar, inexplicably denied Villa what appeared to be a stone-wall penalty in the 69th minute. Young was bearing down on the Rapid goal when Katzer cut across him, bundling the forward to the ground.
Kevin MacDonald would have been Aston Villa’s ideal choice to succeed Martin O’Neill. But this latest setback, coming on the back of the humiliating 6-0 defeat at St James’ Park on Sunday, suggests the job might be one step too far for the reserve-team manager.
