At 43, Torres starts training for 2012 Olympics
NEW YORK — Dara Torres is back in the pool and training for what she hopes will be her sixth Olympics.
The 43-year-old swimmer made the announcement Friday on the morning TV show “Live with Regis and Kelly.”
Torres decided to try for the 2012 London Games following reconstructive knee surgery. She says she’s still recovering from the surgery and started swimming again five weeks ago. Torres says her “heart and head are like ‘Yeah, let’s go for it.’”
Competing against athletes half her age, Torres won three silver medals at 41 in the Beijing Olympics. She became the first U.S. swimmer to compete in five Olympics when she made the team for Beijing after giving birth to her first child.
