LAHORE - Cricket fans will get to see former top cricketers in action, as they are all set to take part in Dubai Super Sixes Corporate Cricket League, scheduled to take place from October 1 to 15 at Dubai Sports City International Cricket Stadium.
The tournament will feature famous players like Pakistan’s legendary pacer Wasim Akram and wicket-keeper Moin Khan, South African all rounder Lance Klusener, and Sri Lanka’s Aravinda de Silva and Roshan Mahanama, the Daily Times reports.
India’s Vinod Kambli, Venkatesh Prasad and Rohan Gavaskar will also take part in the tournament, whose format requires each side to play a limited five overs to be completed in 30-minutes time.
According to the rules of the tournament, each participating team must comprise six players and two substitutes, while the organisers would provide five neutral fielders.
This will be the biggest ‘Sixes’ tournament in Dubai with 48 teams confirming their participation.
“Cricket appeals to a broad segment of the people in UAE and hence we decided to support this event,” said Vipen Sethi, chief executive officer of the Landmark Group, adding that “Sixes is short and sweet,” and that they “are delighted to have got renowned cricketers to play alongside the teams that will make it to the quarterfinals.”
“This format will be a permanent fixture of the Dubai cricket’s sports calendar,” Arshad Zaheer, the managing director of Crayons Communications, said, adding that the winning team would be rewarded with AED 20,000.
