NEW DELHI - India’s poster boy Vijender Kumar lost to England’s Ogogo in a semi-final match in the 75 kilogram category of boxing competition here at the XIX Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, Indian boxer Manoj Kumar brought cheers to his fans, as he convincingly defeated Pakistan’s Haroon Iqbal with a score of 9-3, to enter in the Finals of 64 kg category.

Earlier in the day, India’s hopes from boxing suffered a setback, as all three of the country’s puglists lost their semi-final bouts at the Talkatora Stadium.

Commonwealth Championship gold medallist Amandeep Singh (49kg), Asian silver-medallist Jai Bhagwan (60kg) and nine-time national champion Dilbag Singh (69kg) had to be content with bronze medals after losing their semifinal bouts.

Amandeep lost 0-5 to Olympic bronze medallist and European champion Paddy Barnes of Northern Ireland, Jai went down 5-10 to European Championship silver winner Thomas Stalker of England and Dilbag was beaten 4-5 in a thrilling contest against Northern Ireland’s Patrick Gallagher. (ANI)
