PCB should clean up mess: Zaheer Abbas
By ANISunday, October 17, 2010
KARACHI - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is doing one blunder after another, thus taking the national cricket to the edge of a disaster, former captain Zaheer Abbas has said.
“I was surprised to hear Ijaz giving a very controversial statement about the English Cricket Board (ECB) which he should’ve avoided,” the Daily Times quoted Zaheer, as saying, referring to PCB chairman Ijaz Butt’s “England match-throwing comment.”
Earlier, Butt had claimed that the England team was involved in match-fixing during the third one-day international against Pakistan last month. His remarks had created a furore in the cricket world, following which Butt had to offer his unconditional apology to the ECB.
Commenting on the International Cricket Council (ICC) announcement after its Executive Board meeting in Dubai, Zaheer said, “The ICC wrote a pinching and insulting letter to PCB, telling the board to get its act together.”
“It is an insult for Pakistan and its citizens,” he added.
Taking serious note of the continuing decline in the governance of cricket in Pakistan, the ICC had given out a clear message to the PCB that it should either buck up and sort out the game’s administration within a month or be ready to face the consequences, potentially in the form of sanctions.
