Third India-Australia ODI in Goa abandoned due to soggy field

FATORDA - India has won the one-day series against Australia one-nil after the third one-day international against the visitors was abandoned on Sunday due to wet ground conditions without a ball being bowled.
The umpires for the game - Billy Bowden and Amish Saheba - decided to call off the game to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here after three inspections. Inspections were carried out 9 a.m.; 11 a.m. and 12.20 p.m.
The decision to cancel the game was taken in consultation with match referee Chris Broad, the two captains - Michael Clarke and Mahendra Singh Dhoni - and officials of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA).
The GCA said that it would refund the money paid by fans.
On Saturday, Dhoni said that should the match be played, India would focus on improving its bowling at the death - the last ten overs.
He said that this remained a worry. The hosts conceded 114 runs in the last ten overs in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam, including 84 in the last five as Cameron White and Michael Clarke propelled Australia to 289.
“The last ten overs have always been a big concern for us. It’s not a worry we have had (only) over the last two or three months. We have been bothered by the last ten overs for a long time now - one to one-and-a-half years,” Dhoni said.
“We had done well in between but have not been really consistent. It’s still an area where we can definitely improve.” (ANI)
