Amir confident of ICC clean chit over ’spot-fixing’ charges after full hearing

ISLAMABAD - Suspended Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir is confident that he would come out clean in the ’spot-fixing’ hearing being conducted by the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s code of conduct commission.

Amir, Test captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, were suspended in September after a British tabloid alleged that they were involved in ’spot-fixing’ the Lord’s Test against England in August.

“All bowlers bowl no-balls it can happen with anyone, but that does not mean I have done spot-fixing,” the Daily Times quoted Amir, as saying.

“It is a fact that Mazhar Majeed is my agent and a good friend, but it does not mean I am doing any fixing in matches,” he added.

The 18-year-old also made it clear that he had not adopted a progressive and richer lifestyle from black money or by indulging in fixing.

“I was a member of the team that won the Twenty20 World Cup last year and we got a lot of prize money and bonuses. We get paid Rs.200,000 to Rs.250,000 for every ODI and around Rs.300,000 to Rs.350,000 for a Test match,” Amir said.

“I am also doing endorsements. So, I am earning good money and that is how I purchased the house in Lahore,” he added.

The ICC’s code of conduct commission, headed by Michael Beloff, upheld the trio’s suspensions after a two-day hearing in Dubai on Sunday.

The innocence or guilt of the players will now be judged at an independent tribunal, the date of which has yet to be set. (ANI)
