ICC’s Pak Task Team impressed by anti-corruption progress made by PCB

ISLAMABAD - The ICC’s Pakistan Task Team (PTT) received an update on the progress being made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to ensure integrity of cricket via teleconference on Sunday, and were impressed by the progress reported by the board.

Chairman of the PTT and ICC Director Giles Clarke was joined by members of the task team as well as PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt and ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.

Lorgat said, “PCB has clearly recognized that it is imperative to protect the integrity of cricket and we are indeed impressed by the progress reported. Their willingness to play such an active role on the integrity issue is vital to the future of international cricket. They have shown a clear determination to tackle their challenges.”

“The ICC Task Team is mindful of those challenges and is committed to supporting the PCB,” he added.

The progress reported by the PCB included developing of an Anti-Corruption Code, a proposed plan to regulate agents of Pakistani players, and an enhanced and countrywide education programme.

PTT Chairman Giles Clarke said, “The PCB chairman and his team must be congratulated for the speed with which they have adopted the recommendations of the ICC Board. Everyone is encouraged by the statements and actions of the PCB and we must hope that they continue.”

Butt said that the PCB was determined to implement the recommendations provided by the ICC.

“We at the PCB, like the ICC, are committed to a zero-tolerance approach to any form of corruption,” he added. (ANI)
