McIntosh hits maiden ton on Indian soil ( Statistical highlights, Day one)

HYDERABAD - New Zealand opener Tim Mcintosh scored a steady 102 to become the 11th cricketer to post a century after registering a double duck here on the first day of the second cricket Test against India Friday.

The other highlights:

Martin Guptill registered his best innings against India. His superb 85 off 160 balls is his highest innings away from home and the second highest, next only to the 189 against Bangladesh at Hamilton in February this year.

Guptill recorded his fourth Test fifty - his first against India.

Guptill has averaged 71.33 this year, amassing 428 in seven innings (four Tests), including one century and three fifties.

India have conceded 21 extras in New Zealand’s total of 258 for four, taking their tally to 500-plus during the last one year in 14 Tests - 506.

The aforesaid tally includes 187 no-balls - the most by any team during the last one year. The next three teams after India are - Pakistan 110 in 13 Tests, Australia 108 in 12 Tests and West Indies 102 in six Tests.

Tim McIntosh (102) has recorded his first hundred against India - his second Test century. He had posted 136 against West Indies at Napier two years ago.

McIntosh is the eleventh player (the first New Zealander) to register a hundred after posting a pair in the previous Test match.

Stephen Fleming was the last New Zealand opening batsman to register a hundred in an away Test - 117 against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in 2004.

Two new Test centres came into existence, for the first time on the same day - Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium and Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Ross Taylor became the 24th New Zealander to amass 2,000 runs in Tests - aggregating 2021 at an average of 43.00 in 27 Tests.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with 72 dismissals (62 catches + 10 stumpings) in 37 innings, has set a record for dismissals, bettering Gerry Alexander’s tally of 70 (65 catches + 5 stumpings) in 35 innings.

The 147-run stand between McIntosh and Guptill is the second highest for the second wicket for New Zealand in India, next only to the 151 between Mark Richardson and Scott Styris in the 2003-04 Mohali Test.
