DHARAMSALA - The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) will host the ‘Twenty20 Mahasangram’ from November 29, which will see the participation of a record 1100 to 1300 teams.
Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association spokesperson Sanjay Sharma said the tournament was earlier set to start on November 13, but due to the festival season, the dates were postponed.
The tournament is in its second season and is expected to see the participation of about 18000 players.
Sharma further said the idea behind this tournament is to take the sport to the remotest areas of Himachal Pradesh.
“We want youngsters in villages not to consider cricket just as a game of bat and ball, but understand its finer technicalities. This will allow the youth of the state to hone their interest in cricket and do well professionally in it,” said Sharma.
The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) is trying its best to match the criteria required to set a world record through this tournament.
The semi-finals and finals will be played under floodlights at the Dharamsala cricket stadium, cash prize worth rupees 30,00,000 will be presented to the winners.
Each member of teams reaching the quarter-finals will receive a cricket kit. By Akhilesh Bharati (ANI)
