LONDON - England manager Fabio Capello has been forced into a humiliating climbdown after questioning defender John Terry’s commitment to the team.

According to the Sun, Capello’s assistant Franco Baldini has phoned Terry to backtrack over claims Terry was putting Chelsea before his country.

“Baldini telephoned John Terry to clear the air. He told him he doesn’t think he’s shirking England at all,” an England insider said.

“JT really appreciated the call. It was a big relief because he’d been stunned by the suggestion,” he added.

It was earlier reported that Terry was ’stunned’ by the suggestion that he had lost his passion for his country, and had insisted that he remained as committed and patriotic as ever.

The defender has played only 45 minutes for England since the start of the season, when he came off at half-time in the August friendly against Hungary.

He then missed the next three internationals. Yet after all those matches he played for Chelsea in their next game. (ANI)
