I’m a better bowler than three years ago against India, says Tremlett

PERTH - England fast bowler Chris Tremlett, who helped his team skittle Australia for 268 in their first innings in the third Ashes Test, insists that his injury woes are now behind him, and he is a better cricketer than when he notched three Tests against India in 2007.

Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne had labelled Tremlett a softie, but the fast bowler was ruthless on Thursday as he claimed 3-63 and made the most of his inclusion for the injured Stuart Broad.

“People can say what they want about gentle giant or whatever, but when I get the ball in my hand I try my hardest and try to be aggressive and positive with the way I bowl,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Tremlett, as saying.

“There’s been a bit of frustration along the way, but I’ve worked hard to get back to where I want to be. I moved to Surrey (from Hampshire) last year and obviously enjoyed things there and had the aspiration to always play for England again,” he added.

The 29-year-old further said that the ongoing Test at the WACA ground is the “most special game” he has played in so far.

“It’s great for me I’ve had the chance to do it again. Definitely it was a big step in my career (against Australia today), obviously to hit my straps straight away … in such an important game, so very happy.

“It was an amazing atmosphere and a very enjoyable day. At the moment I feel fitter than ever and strong as ever and I’m very happy with my action. I think I’ve grown up a bit, I’m more experienced as a cricketer, I know my game a lot more and I think I’m a better bowler than three years ago,” he added.

Tremlett had made his Test debut against India at Lords in July 2007 after Matthew Hoggard was ruled out with a back complaint.

However, due to the success and consistency of the first choice bowlers, the 29-year-old was not a regular part of the England team.

The right-arm fast bowler was also struggling with a side strain, which kept him in and out of the Hampshire team. (ANI)
