CHENNAI - Chennai Police on Tuesday summoned suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi for questioning in connection with a funds misappropriation case filed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary N Srinivasan.
The Crime Branch Police have also summoned six others for questioning in the case, including Kunal Dasgupta, Venu Nair, Andrew Georgio, Seamus O’Brien, Harish Krishnamachar and Ajay Verma.
“They have been summoned under CrPC sections 91 (to produce documents or other things) and 160 (power to require attendance of witnesses),” said a police official.
Srinivasan has charged Modi with misappropriation of Rs 470 crore, mainly in alloting media rights and free commercial rights.
The complaint was filed in Chennai since the cricket board is registered there.
The Central Crime Branch Police had registered a case against Modi and others in October under different sections, including criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, falsification of accounts and cheating.
In September this year, Modi was suspended from all forms of Indian cricket, and replaced as IPL chief by Chirayu Amin.
Modi was also stripped of his position as vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and also lost his job as chairman of the Champions League Twenty20, a club tournament organised jointly by India, Australia and South Africa.
Modi also faces accusations of tax evasion and money laundering, but denies all allegations of wrongdoing. (ANI)
