LONDON - Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Saturday that they would like to sign former England captain David Beckham on loan from American club LA Galaxy in January.

The 35-year-old is looking to return to Europe as he did in 2009 and 2010 and Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said he was keen, if the conditions were right.

“We will contact LA Galaxy to see if they will let him go and if David is up for a three-month deal, we will definitely be interested,” Redknapp said.

“I am sure he can still do a great job at the top level, otherwise I would not bother. He is not going to come here and get big money - we are not massive payers at this club.

“But he wants to come over here to the freezing cold and play football. Does not that tell you something about the boy that lives in Los Angeles and might be a billionaire?”
