KOLKATA - Twenty cars will vie for top honours in the 110-km ‘Rally de State of Art 2011′ to be flagged off from Domra in Darjeeling district Saturday.
Seven cars will compete in the professional category and 13 in the amateur category in the rally that will end at Panagarh in Burdwan district Sunday.
Slated to be run in a Time Speed Distance (TSD) format, the rally has been divided into three legs, including 60 km of dirt road that will test the skills of both the driver and the navigator forming each team, said Amittrajit Ghosh, a three time national rally champion and brain behind the event.
The rally will be supervised by international level stewards from the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI). The winner in the professional category will get a prize money of Rs.70,000 while Rs.40,000 will be paid to the champion in the amateur category.
“We have introduced safety measures in line with the Indian National Rally Championship. Medical staff will run through the stage and trauma ambulances will be posted at all medical points. Control points have also been kept off state and national highways”.
“The rally also incorporates special control points which will make it very interesting for the driver and navigator alike and also ensure a steady pace. A TSD rally usually is a 500-km event but we have shortened the distance to 110 km to increase the competitive edge” added Ghosh.
