India suffer sixth straight loss to Proteas (Statistical Highlights)

DURBAN - India suffered its second biggest and sixth straight loss to South Africa after going down by 135 runs in the first One-day International at the Kingsmead here.

South Africa’s biggest win against India also came at the same venue in 2006 when the Proteas won by 157 runs.

The other statistical highlights of the match are as following:

Abraham de Villiers (76 off 69 balls) posted his second fifty against India - his 25th in ODIs.

De Villiers has recorded three innings of 75-plus in a row - 114 not out at Gwalior and 102 not out at Ahmedabad last year followed by 76 at Durban.

Amla’s second fifty against India is his eleventh in ODIs.

Amla’s brilliant 50 off 36 balls is his second highest against India - the highest being the 87 off 103 balls at Ahmedabad on February 27, 2010.

Munaf Patel (2/36) recorded his best bowling performance against South Africa, surpassing the two for 39 at Durban on November 22, 2006.

Jean-Paul Duminy (73) has posted his highest innings against India. His first half-century against India is his tenth in ODIs.

Duminy, during the aforesaid half-century, completed his 1,000 runs in South Africa, aggregating 1071 at an average of 53.55, including two centuries and five fifties, in 31 matches.

Rohit Sharma (2/30) has produced his second best bowling performance in ODIs, next only to the 2 for 27 against West Indies at Kingston on June 28, 2009.

Morne Morkel (2/12) has produced his best bowling performance against India. He had gone wicketless in his only previous game against India at Ahmedabad on Feb 27, 2010 - 7-0-48-0.

Morkel was quite economical in his first four overs, conceding just nine runs, claiming two vital wickets.

Ashish Nehra’s economy rate of 10.16 is his second worst in ODIs (6-0-61-1) — the worst being 10.60 (5-0-53-0) against West Indies at Ahmedabad on Nov 15, 2002.

Nehra has completed 150 wickets for India in 111 matches at an average of 31.10. His overall tally of 152 wickets includes two for Asia XI in three games at an average of 41.00.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has registered his highest innings at Kingsmead, Durban, outstripping the 14 against South Africa on November 22, 2006.

Virat Kohli (54) posted his second highest innings against South Africa, next only to the 57 at Ahmedabad on Feb 27, 2010.

Kohli’s second fifty against South Africa is his 11th in ODIs.

Harbhajan’s second duck against South Africa is his 14th in ODIs.

Lonwabo Tsotsobe (4/31) has recorded his best bowling figures against India, bettering the 3 for 58 at Ahmedabad on Feb 27,2010.

Tsotsobe’s aforesaid performance is his best in South Africa and the second best in ODIs, next only to the 4 for 27 against Pakistan at Abu Dhabi on Oct 29, 2010.

Tsotsobe’s excellent figures of 4 for 27 are the second best for South Africa against India at Kingsmead, Durban, next only to Andre Nel’s 4 for 13 on Nov 22, 2006.

Tsotsobe got the Man of the Match for the second time in ODIs - his first was against Pakistan at Abu Dhabi on Oct 29, 2010.

South Africa’s magnificent 135-run victory at Kingsmead, Durban is their second biggest in terms of runs over India in ODIs, next only to the 157-run triumph in the previous encounter at the same venue on Nov 22, 2006.

The aforesaid win is South Africa’s 37th (lost 22) out of 61 played against India (NR 2) - winning percentage 62.71.

India are without a victory in six ODIs against South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban, losing five while one match on Feb 12, 1997 was rain-affected.

South Africa (289/9) posted their highest total against India in South Africa, outstripping the 282 for four at East London on Oct 19, 2001.

South Africa’s 289 for nine is their second best at Kingsmead - the highest is 329 for six against Zimbabwe on Feb 27, 2005.

India’s 154 is their third lowest against South Africa - the two lowest are 91 at Durban on Nov 22, 2006 and 147 at Port Elizabeth on Dec 9, 1992.
