Lawson calls for Cricket Australia clean up

BRISBANE - Former Test fast bowler Geoff Lawson has called for a cleanout of Cricket Australia stables to revive the nation’s miserable cricket fortunes, especially in Tests.
Speaking at a Queensland Cricket corporate luncheon in Brisbane, Lawson also said skipper Ricky Ponting needed to be put out to pasture immediately after the ICC Cricket World Cup.
According to Fox Sports, the 46-Test quick and former Pakistan coach blamed poor leadership, with scant attention given to cricketing fundamentals.
“It’s what I call a top-down disintegration, it’s started at the top and filtered through,” Lawson told luncheon guests.
He demanded a line be drawn in the sand now to ensure Australia turns themselves around after dropping to No.5 on the Test rankings list.
“We’ve got to rebuild and if you don’t perform then catch you later, I’m talking about selectors, coaches everybody,” he said.
Lawson also took a massive shot at the management practices of coaches and fitness staff as a litany of fast bowlers have broken down in recent times, including six promising quicks in NSW. (ANI)
